July is my birthday month, so you get the personal version of the newsletter this month.
I've been doing yoga for almost 30 years. I started reformer Pilates for one very scientific reason...
It looked like fun.
Seriously, that was it.
What kept me coming back was something completely different.
I realized how much stability it was building in my body. Yoga gave me mobility, peace of mind and body awareness, but reformer Pilates helped me build strength and control in a way I hadn't experienced before. I felt stronger. Steadier. More confident in how I moved.
That's the whole reason REBEL exists.
People sometimes ask if they should do yoga or Pilates. My answer is almost always... both. They complement each other so well. Yoga improves mobility, body awareness and lower stress. Pilates builds strength, stability, and control. Together, they help you move better for life.
Now, if you've taken class with me, you already know there are a few things I'm going to talk about whether you ask or not...
Feet.
You know I talk about them all the time. That's exactly why I love footwork so much.
I truly believe healthy feet are one of the keys to staying mobile as we age. Strong toes and mobile ankles don't sound very exciting, but they make a huge difference in how you walk, balance, climb stairs, hike, travel, and simply move through everyday life. Most people never intentionally train them, and I think that's a mistake. So yes... we'll probably be doing footwork.
I'm also a huge fan of exercises that challenge your core without making it the star of the show. Those are usually the movements that make the biggest difference in how your body functions outside the studio.
A year into REBEL, that's still what gets me excited. Helping people build stronger, more capable bodies so they can keep doing the things they love for a long, long time.
And yes... we're probably doing footwork.
