Mermaid Stretch for self-care and softness

This week we are focusing on one of the most spacious and soothing movements on the reformer: the Mermaid Stretch. It is gentle, graceful, and surprisingly powerful. Mermaid reminds us that self-care is not only about slowing down. It is also about creating room to breathe, move, and feel supported.
As you flow through Mermaid, the body lengthens through the ribs and side waist, the shoulders soften, and the spine gets a well-earned moment of freedom. It is the kind of movement that helps you stand a little taller and breathe a little deeper long after class ends.
Mermaid also teaches a deeper lesson. When we create space in our bodies, we often create space in our minds. Space to pause. Space to reset. Space to choose what we need next. That is self-care in its simplest form.
